DeepL, based in Cologne, makes the DeepL Translator, DeepL Write, DeepL Voice and DeepL Agent products. It earns revenue from subscriptions and API access, and has more than 200,000 business customers, including many Fortune 500 companies. It launched in 2017 as a spin-off from Linguee. It became a unicorn in 2023 and was valued at $2B after a $300M round led by Index Ventures in May 2024, bringing total funding to about $400M. Estimated 2024 revenue is about $185M (third-party estimate). In May 2026 it announced plans to cut about 25% of its roughly 1,000 staff, and in June 2026 it acquired Mixhalo.
