Variational AI
Variational AI (Vancouver) develops Enki, a generative AI foundation model for small-molecule drug discovery. Enki 4, released in April 2026, covers 760 pre-trained targets and extends to degraders, PROTACs and ADC payloads. Biopharma partners include Merck, Rakovina Therapeutics, ImmVue and Oncocross. It works through collaborations and also develops its own internal pipeline. The September 2025 Merck deal has a potential value of up to US$349M plus an upfront payment. In February 2025 it closed an oversubscribed US$5.5M seed extension led by Nimbus Synergies. Founders came from MIT, Caltech, Google, Microsoft and D-Wave.
