SoftBank buys Arm-server chip designer Ampere for $6.5B

SoftBank Group agreed on March 19, 2025 to acquire Ampere Computing, the Arm-based server-CPU designer backed by Oracle and Carlyle, for $6.5B in cash, adding a data-center silicon team alongside Arm and Graphcore as it assembled the pieces for Stargate.
