Banks and Blackstone line up $63B to finance Broadcom chips leased to Anthropic
Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley will provide the debt used to buy Broadcom AI chips and networking gear. A special purpose vehicle buys the hardware and leases it to Anthropic. Broadcom provides residual value support to lenders, who hold first lien loans or senior debt, which moves much of the downside away from the lessee. The package follows an earlier financing led by Apollo and Blackstone for Anthropic's compute buildout. It ranks among the bigger debt transactions linked to AI infrastructure, and it highlights how banks and alternative asset managers now fund infrastructure that used to sit on startup balance sheets. For founders, the structure shows that compute can be financed through leases backed by chip suppliers rather than equity. Teams negotiating capacity should watch how residual value guarantees shape pricing, term length and the flexibility to switch hardware generations.
