Volantis raises $88M Series A to pack 220 memory chips around a GPU with photonics
Volantis raised an $88 million Series A for a GPU memory architecture that uses photonic links to put roughly 220 memory chips around a single accelerator, attacking the memory wall that caps inference throughput. Memory bandwidth, not FLOPs, is the bottleneck for serving large models cheaply; every credible attempt to widen it changes the economics of inference a year or two out.
