Stripe to buy OpenRouter for more than $7B, turning model routing into payments infrastructure
Stripe agreed to acquire OpenRouter, the one-API-for-every-model gateway, for more than $7B — months after OpenRouter raised at a $1.3B valuation and weeks after reports of talks near $10B. For builders the signal is that the metering, billing and routing layer between apps and models is now considered core financial infrastructure.
