Mattiq (formerly Stoicheia) is a Northwestern University spinout. It pairs nanomaterial "megalibrary" technology with AI to find and scale sustainable materials and electrochemical processes. These include low-iridium catalysts for PEM electrolyzers, and it works with chemical and energy partners such as Heraeus Precious Metals (partnership announced 2025). It is privately held and funded by venture capital and US Department of Energy grants. It launched in 2023 with a $15M seed round led by Material Impact, and a 2025 C&EN profile cites $20M in pre-Series A funding. The company is small, with roughly 11-50 employees.
