Quill.org builds free online literacy tools. They include Quill Grammar, Proofreader, Diagnostic, Lessons, Connect and Reading for Evidence. The tools use AI to grade student writing and give immediate feedback, so students can revise and teachers save time. It is a nonprofit funded by grants rather than sales. Its funders include Google.org (a $1.3M AI Impact Challenge grant in 2019), the Gates Foundation, the Overdeck Family Foundation and the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. Its stated reach is over 11–12 million students since its 2014 launch and more than 3 billion sentences revised. It is based in New York City.
