Replate runs a food recovery platform. Donors request on-demand or recurring pickups and track impact metrics. Professional 'food rescuers' deliver the food to nonprofit recipients. Donors include corporate offices, restaurants, airports and event venues, and Replate also helps them comply with California SB 1383 food recovery rules. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, not a venture-backed AI company, and it is funded by grants and philanthropy. These include $800,000 in CalRecycle grants (2018–2020) and a Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation grant. It operates in the Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Denver and other U.S. regions, and partnered with Cruise on driverless food rescue in 2022–2023.
