Albert raises $55M Series B led by TCV for chemistry-focused AI platform
The Oakland company sells software and AI tools to scientists who develop chemical formulations and materials, used in products such as paints, adhesives and consumer goods. TCV led the Series B. New investors are Delta-v Capital, Socium Ventures, HighSage Ventures, Coral Capital and Legion VC. Existing backers Coatue, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity, Index Ventures and Applied Ventures also took part. Albert's pitch is that research teams keep experiments in spreadsheets and disconnected databases, so past results are hard to reuse when an ingredient becomes unavailable. Its software makes that history searchable and uses it to suggest alternatives. Forbes reported a valuation of about $340M, citing a person familiar with the deal. No revenue figure was published. For AI builders, the round backs a vertical approach: models trained on proprietary domain data and wired into lab workflows, rather than general assistants. Sector-specific data and customer integration are the moat investors are paying for, and incumbents in materials science are the buyers.
