Meta acquires Sundial, an AI analytics startup founded by two former Meta executives
Meta confirmed the purchase to Axios, and no price was disclosed. Sundial was co-founded in 2021 by Julie Zhuo and Chandra Narayanan, both former Meta leaders, and Narayanan will lead Meta's analytics tooling and AI agents work inside the company's new data organization. Sundial had raised $23 million in total, including a $16 million Series A led by DJ Patil of GPV. Its platform gives businesses fast access to data analysis, and it will stop serving outside customers once the deal closes. Other Sundial employees, including several Meta alumni, will join Meta with the technology. For founders, the deal shows large platforms buying small analytics vendors and absorbing their teams. Anyone selling an AI tool should write continuity and data export terms into customer contracts, because an acquirer can end external service at closing.
