Metropolis uses computer vision to recognize vehicles and charge drivers automatically, so there are no tickets, kiosks or cards. Its first market was parking, and it is expanding into fueling, quick-service drive-thrus, hotels and offices. It earns money as a parking operator and as a software provider. It bought SP Plus for about $1.5B (completed May 2024), which made it North America's largest parking operator. In November 2025 it raised $1.6B in equity and debt at a $5B valuation, and it now operates at 4,000+ locations.
