Rainbow Crops
Rainbow Crops is a Ghent-based agtech spin-out of the VIB–UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology. Its Trait Foundry platform combines AI, multiplex CRISPR editing (50–100 simultaneous edits), precision breeding and automated phenotyping to design and validate traits such as drought tolerance and input efficiency. It has been validated in corn and is expanding to sorghum and rice. It partners and co-develops varieties with seed and breeding companies, and with nonprofits. In 2026 it closed a €9.7M seed round led by LIFTT EuroInvest, with Corteva Catalyst, Maia Ventures, AIF, PINC and VIB participating, after a roughly $7M Gates Foundation grant.
