Generalist AI raises $400M Series B for robot foundation models
The round values the company at about $2 billion and lifts total capital raised above $500 million. Radical Ventures led, with 8VC, Union Square Ventures, Hanabi Capital and Norwest joining. Nvidia's NVentures, Boldstart, Spark Capital, Bezos Expeditions and NFDG, all existing backers, also took part. The company says the money will go to its robot-learning models, data collection infrastructure, compute and commercial deployments. The raise followed GEN-1, released in April. The company claims 99 percent reliability on dexterous tasks and speeds up to three times faster than prior systems. Training relies on wrist-worn "data hands" worn by its own staff. Universal Robots and Flexiv have demoed the models on their arms. The valuation has already moved: an extension of nearly $200 million led by 8VC reportedly brings the combined round to $600 million. That extension was reported at a $3 billion valuation, against $440 million in 2025. For founders, the model layer is being funded separately from robot hardware. Generalist builds the control software, not the machines. Proprietary real-world data collection is the expensive part, and investors are paying for it. The reliability figures are the company's own, and one source describes them as lab results, so deployment evidence will matter next.
