Fragment raises $12M Series A led by FirstMark for billing infrastructure aimed at AI companies
FirstMark led the round with BoxGroup participating, and the company did not report a valuation. Fragment was founded in 2021 by Thomas Neckel and now has $23M in reported equity funding, so this Series A is just over half of its lifetime capital. The company builds financial infrastructure that automates billing, payments and accounting for vertical AI companies. That target market matters because AI products often charge on usage, outcomes or credits rather than flat seats, which strains conventional billing and revenue recognition tools. Fragment appeared in AlleyWatch's New York funding report for October 15. For founders building AI products, pricing and billing complexity is becoming its own infrastructure category. A specialist vendor backed by FirstMark suggests that usage-based monetization plumbing is something teams can buy rather than build, and it may be worth evaluating before engineering time is spent on custom metering and invoicing.
