Deel acquires deepfake detection startup Clarity in cash and stock deal
Deel is acquiring Israeli deepfake security startup Clarity. Terms were not disclosed, and Calcalist estimates $40M to $50M paid in cash and Deel shares. Clarity was founded in 2022 and has raised $16M from investors including Walden Catalyst Ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners, with Fusion, Secret Chord Ventures, Ascend Ventures and Flying Fish Partners participating. Clarity verifies that job candidates are who they claim to be, using identity checks, deepfake detection and fraud prevention aimed at fake faces, voices and documents in remote interviews. Its team joins Deel, which valued at more than $17B and announced alongside the deal that it passed $1.5B in annual recurring revenue in the first half of 2026. It is Deel's 15th acquisition. For AI builders, synthetic identity fraud is now a product category that platform companies buy rather than build. Startups in deepfake detection can find buyers among HR, payments and identity vendors whose customers face hiring and onboarding fraud, and a stock component lets acquirers pay a premium without heavy cash.
