Norm AI raises $120M Series C at $1.2B for regulatory AI agents
Total funding now exceeds $260 million, raised in under three years. John Nay founded the company in July 2023. Blackstone, Vanguard, New York Life, TIAA and Fenwick LLP also took part. The company says its clients represent more than $30 trillion in combined assets under management. The new capital will go to hiring, wider practice area coverage, and supervisory agents for regulated enterprise AI deployments. The product has two parts. Norm Law is an affiliated AI-native law firm that runs on the company's own agents, with human attorneys supervising them. Pricing is based on outcomes instead of hourly billing. The firm is chaired by Mike Schmidtberger, who led Sidley's executive committee from 2018 to 2025. Harvey and Legora have reached valuations of $11B and $5.6B. Norm is aimed at institutional compliance work. For founders, the notable choice is liability. Running an affiliated law firm puts responsibility for AI work product on the company, not on a software vendor. Selling outcomes rather than seats suits regulated buyers who pay for results. It also means the startup carries the operational and legal risk, and it needs credentialed supervisors in the loop.
