Harvey acquires Guardrails AI, its fourth purchase of 2026, to harden legal agents
Guardrails AI co-founders Shreya Rajpal, who was CEO, and Zayd Simjee are joining Harvey's product and engineering organization with their team. Terms were not disclosed. Guardrails, based in San Francisco, built an open-source framework that flags when agents stray from intended behavior. It also built Snowglobe, a simulator in which synthetic users test agents before launch. Its backers included Zetta Venture Partners, Bloomberg Beta, Pear VC, Factory and Microsoft. Harvey has now made four acquisitions in 2026, after Hexus, Lume and Benchmark. Crunchbase counts 195 acquisitions of AI startups by venture-backed AI companies through Sept. 29, already 14% more than in all of 2025. For founders building evaluation and safety tools, the buyers are increasingly vertical application companies rather than model labs. Harvey wants proof of how its agents behave on long legal tasks before firms trust them with client work, and buying a reliability team was faster than building one.
