Slingshot Insurance emerges from stealth with $27M seed for checkout policies
Slingshot Insurance is building an insurer for small policies sold at checkout, such as coverage bundled into youth sports sign-ups. Founder Ethan Genteman was previously chief actuarial officer at Palomar Holdings. For now the company earns fees as a technology provider to outside insurers, and it is pursuing an acquisition that would let it carry risk. Rally Ventures and Skyward Group co-led the seed round. Insurance veterans including Jim Hays also participated, and Hays is joining the board. Rally is a co-founder of the company, and Slingshot says it began operating on July 1. For AI founders in regulated markets, the raise shows that embedded distribution products can attract seed capital when the model sits inside a partner's checkout flow. The open question is whether the company secures a carrier license and holds risk at scale.
