Upwind buys nine-month-old Aegis and launches an AI security lab around it
Calcalist reports Upwind is acquiring Aegis in a stock-based deal valued at tens of millions of dollars. Aegis was founded about nine months earlier by Omri Limor and Saar Ankonina, both Unit 8200 veterans. The pair had a strategic partnership with Upwind for several months before the buyer decided to acquire. Terms were not formally disclosed. Upwind is using the deal to create Upwind AI Labs for Cybersecurity, a research unit focused on threats against AI systems and on defenses for organizations that run AI agents. Limor and Ankonina will lead it. Upwind raised $300M at about $3.8B weeks earlier, more than doubling the $1.5B valuation it held in January. For builders, security for AI agents is turning into a category that cloud security vendors want to absorb quickly. A nine-month-old team with a design partnership was enough to anchor a new lab inside a unicorn. Founders in agent security can expect acqui-hire style interest from well-funded platforms before their own products reach scale.
