About Bay Angels

Overview

Silicon Valley angel investment group (not a fund) connecting founders with accredited angels for early-stage backing.

History and team

The firm's website says Roger King founded Bay Angels in 1997 after running startup pitch competitions for the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce. Some directories and the firm's LinkedIn page give 1998 instead. Karim Nurani is listed as Executive Director, and Jordan Wahbeh was named Managing Partner when the group announced an expansion. The site describes members as former founders, tech industry veterans and experienced angels, and says the group has reviewed more than 3,000 pitch decks and has over 75 active members. In 2025, according to the site, one in four companies presenting at its live pitch events received an investment. Public sources do not name the partners who lead AI deals.

AI investing

The firm's own site does not set an AI mandate and does not describe a dedicated AI fund. Members invest on their own or syndicate deals with other angels in the network. A third-party profile lists agentic AI, drone and fire defense, spatial computing and VR among the group's interests, while also calling the approach industry-agnostic. A RaiseHunt listing tags the firm with AI and machine learning, but that tag is taken from the portfolio, not from a stated plan. LinkedIn posts about a pitch event name judges from AI-focused investment firms, but that does not show AI deals by the group.

Stages and check sizes

The firm's site does not publish its stages or check sizes. Its LinkedIn page says it invests in seed, angel, pre-A and A stage technology companies. Private Equity List shows Pre-Seed, Seed and Series B with tickets of $0 to $1 million. Another directory gives $500,000 to $5 million across seed through Series B. These third-party figures conflict and the firm has not confirmed either one.

Notable AI portfolio companies
  • MachineBox: named in RaiseHunt's portfolio list under an AI tag. The source gives no description and no round or year.
  • UrsaLeo: seed round dated April 2019 per PitchBook, classed there as business and productivity software rather than AI. Listed on RaiseHunt as well.
  • Surf, Owlized, EvoShare and Pree Media: appear on RaiseHunt's portfolio list. The sources reviewed give no description, round or year for these companies.
