Canva Craft: Turn prompts into design-ready images you can edit
Craft works in two stages. A planning pass fixes where objects go, their relative scale, the visual hierarchy and the text that should appear, then a rendering model turns that plan into an image of up to 2K in any of 30 aspect ratios. Text renders in 55 languages, and Magic Layers split results into editable elements. It is available to all Canva users through Dream Lab and to developers through the public API. Canva had relied on outside image models, and an in-house system gives it more control over cost, quality and speed. Craft debuted fourth on DesignArena, a public leaderboard where people vote between AI-made images. Google, Microsoft, Meta, xAI and ByteDance entries sit behind it on that board, according to coverage of the preliminary results. Those are Canva's performance claims, and designers will have to judge the quality in their own work. For a team building an AI company, a design-trained model with an API is a vendor option aimed at layout-heavy work such as posters and social graphics. Partner AI models will stay in use alongside Canva's own. Prices for the cheaper variants have not been published yet.
