Serval buys software supply chain security startup Ensignia and makes its founder head of security
Serval, the AI-native IT and employee service platform, announced on October 6 that it has acquired Ensignia, a startup that verifies the integrity of code, dependencies and build pipelines. Terms were not disclosed. Ensignia founder and CEO Sam Stewart, who previously built security teams at Brex, Cruise and CultureAmp, becomes Serval's head of security, covering detection and response, application and infrastructure security and the permissions that govern Serval's agents. Serval raised a $75M Series B led by Sequoia Capital in January at a $1B valuation and has raised $127M in total from investors including Redpoint Ventures, First Round and General Catalyst. Customers named include Fox, Spotify, Notion, Ramp, Legora, Clay and Mercor. The deal follows Serval's launch of Catalyst, an agent that configures its own platform. For builders of agents that act inside enterprise systems, security is now a buying criterion, not an add-on. Small security teams with a narrow technical edge are becoming attractive tuck-ins for well-funded agent companies.
