Kaizenvest
About Kaizenvest
Kaizenvest is an asset manager and venture capital/private equity firm based in Singapore, with operational offices in Mumbai, Johannesburg, and Kigali. Founded in 2010, the company focuses on education-related investments across South & South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. It manages private equity and private debt funds aimed at enhancing the future of learning and work.
As India's first education-focused private equity fund, Kaizenvest adopts an impact-driven approach, believing that education is key to a better world. The firm invests in growth-stage companies within the education sect
Tracxn and AllBusiness give 2010 as the founding year, while PrivateEquityList gives 2009. Sandeep Aneja is the founder and managing partner. Before starting the firm he spent seven years in Silicon Valley, including as a partner at Outlook Ventures. Jetu Lalvani, also a managing partner, handles portfolio management and impact assessment and sits on the investment committee. Gaurav Jain, a partner, was the firm's first employee and has worked on education deals across India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Tracxn counts 31 team members, including five partners, one venture partner and three principals, spread across Singapore, India and other offices.
The firm describes its mandate as education, not AI. Its Fund II target covered core education, parallel education, and education-enabling services such as technology and edtech. I did not find a published AI thesis, an AI-labelled fund, or an AI-specific deal. Edtech companies named in press coverage include Byju's, upGrad, Vedantu and MindX. When MindX raised its Series B, it said it planned to build data-driven systems, which is a product goal and not a stated AI investment policy. Founders with AI companies should ask the team directly how it evaluates AI-driven learning products.
Sources disagree on stage. PrivateEquityList lists Series B, Tracxn says the firm primarily invests in Series A, and Altss describes growth equity and buyouts. Publicly reported deal sizes are a $15 million Series B led by Kaizenvest in MindX in 2022, a $10 million private equity investment in YOLA alongside Mekong Capital, and a $2.6 million seed round in INSOFE. The firm does not publish a check size range.
Kaizen Private Equity Fund I, also listed as The Kaizen Education Fund I, has a 2011 vintage according to PitchBook, but its size is not public in the sources I checked. Fund II is a 10-year closed-end fund with a USD 125 million target size. AVCJ reported a $44 million first close on the second fund. FMO committed USD 15 million to Fund II. Crunchbase also lists a Kaizen Private Equity Debt Fund I.
