Claude Duet puts a proactive Opus 5.5 agent in a waitlisted preview for US subscribers

Claude Duet is a new app built around Claude Opus 5.5. Anthropic is opening a research preview by waitlist to Pro and Max subscribers in the US. Each morning the assistant prepares a brief on the most important items across connected apps, then watches those apps and interrupts only when something needs the user. The approval gate is the detail to watch. Duet can draft and prepare work on its own, but it shows the exact action before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. Trading securities and moving money between accounts remain off-limits, and users can disconnect any app. Access runs through more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in Claude's marketplace. Coverage has already placed the launch next to OpenAI's ChatGPT Dots and Meta's Muse. For founders, the pattern is worth studying: a proactive agent needs a clear permission model, a short list of forbidden actions and an easy way to cut off each connection. Teams building agents should expect users to judge them against this approval flow.
