Micron's Taiwan union wins 99% strike vote over bonuses, threatening a key DRAM and HBM production hub
1,994 members of Micron's union in Taoyuan voted to authorize a strike, 99% of those who voted. The timing of any walkout is still under discussion. The union warned that a stoppage could tighten a memory market already short of supply. Taiwan is where Micron makes the DRAM and high-bandwidth memory that go into AI servers next to Nvidia and AMD accelerators. Labor disputes over AI-era profits are spreading through the memory industry: Samsung's union held its first strike in 2024. This week Nokia's CEO also said memory and power shortages are slowing data center construction. HBM is one of the tightest parts of the AI supply chain. Even a short disruption at a major Micron site could raise memory prices and delay GPU server deliveries. That would affect cloud GPU pricing and capacity for startups renting compute into 2027.
