OpenAI reportedly races to raise $30 billion before Anthropic's IPO
A Monday Reuters report says OpenAI is seeking roughly $30 billion in a fresh round, based on information from sources. The round could value the company at more than $1.4 trillion. SoftBank and MGX are reportedly in talks to take part, and neither OpenAI nor SoftBank commented on the reporting. The push comes ahead of Anthropic's planned public listing in mid-November. Securing commitments before that date would give OpenAI a fresh capital base while public investors are still weighing the valuation of its largest rival. The report arrived a day after Anthropic's own compute talks with Nscale were reported. For founders, the round shows how much capital the leading model labs can raise before going public, and that capital shapes API pricing, partner terms and access to compute. A raise at this scale also narrows the pool of investors available to smaller labs and startups competing for the same money.
