SpaceX Says It Closed $40 Billion in Debt Financing for Nvidia GPU Purchases

Musk posted on X that the financing is primarily callable debt tied to GPU purchases, with the chips arriving in the first and second quarters. He said SpaceX's investment-grade status and Starlink and launch revenue helped it keep access to credit. Reuters had reported earlier in October that SpaceX was in talks with banks and asset managers to raise the sum. Reuters also reported that SpaceX revenue climbed 161% to $14.58 billion for the quarter ended September 30. Musk separately said debt markets have largely shut off funding for AI-dependent firms without independent revenue, and predicted that more than 200 neocloud operators would fail. The figures show how much capital the AI buildout now requires, even for a company with a large revenue base. For founders, GPU capacity is increasingly financed through debt structured around delivery schedules. Startups without their own revenue may face tighter credit terms for compute, so compute contracts and funding runway deserve close review.
