Shipped: YOLOv8 — Real-Time AI Object Detection with Webcam

An open-source computer vision proof of concept demonstrating real-time object detection using a pretrained YOLOv8 deep learning model and a webcam integrated with Google Colab.

The project captures live webcam imagery and applies neural network inference to identify and classify everyday objects, displaying bounding boxes, labels, and confidence scores. It uses COCO object categories and provides a configurable confidence threshold to control which detections are displayed.

The interactive demonstration includes webcam capture, single-object detection mode, image saving with filenames based on recognized objects, and GPU acceleration when available. Example results include detecting people, bottles, cups, and scissors.

Designed for students, educators, AI developers, and computer vision enthusiasts, the project illustrates how pretrained deep learning models can be integrated into practical applications without requiring model training from scratch.

The implementation is intended for educational experimentation and provides a foundation for exploring intelligent monitoring, computer vision applications, and real-time AI inference.
