Harness buys Augment Code's Cosmos, Auggie CLI and Context Engine to extend its AI coding automation
The October 9 purchase covers Cosmos, the Auggie command line tools, Augment's Code Context Engine and related technology. Harness sells software delivery tools for build pipelines, testing and deployment. It says the assets will speed its push to automate work across the whole delivery process. Neither the price nor the fate of Augment's remaining team and products was disclosed. Augment Code built AI coding agents for large enterprise codebases. Its context engine indexes whole repositories so agents can reason across them. The company raised about $252 million and was valued near $1 billion in 2024. The sale comes as AI coding tools consolidate around a few heavily funded players, including Cursor, which SpaceX bought earlier this year. For founders, the deal shows that a strong technical layer can survive inside an acquirer even when a standalone coding product struggles against larger rivals and the model labs. Buyers are paying for context and retrieval technology, not just seats.
