Anthropic signs 20-year lease at EverWind's Nova Scotia campus, its first data center in Canada

The lease covers the first phase of EverWind Fuels' Point Tupper campus, planned at 95 MW and targeted to come online by late 2027, according to coverage of the announcement. The full campus is aimed at 420 MW by 2028. EverWind put total investment above C$10 billion, with C$8 billion for the data center and C$2 billion for onshore wind, and had first described the tenant only as a leading frontier AI developer. Reuters reported the deal Friday, citing a company executive. Anthropic's Canada policy head said the company would protect ratepayers and water resources. Reuters noted Anthropic spent $7.33 billion on computing and infrastructure last year, triple its 2024 level, and is preparing a US IPO. For AI companies, the deal shows frontier labs signing long leases with developers that bundle new generation capacity, across more jurisdictions. For founders reliant on Claude, it points to more in-country capacity for Canadian customers, though the first megawatts are more than a year away.
