Meta and Microsoft reportedly cut internal Claude Code use as in-house coding agents take over
The Information reports that Meta's internal Claude Code users fell from about 60,000 to 30,000 as layoffs hit and its own MetaCode and Muse Code tools absorbed developers, even though Meta still spent roughly $105M on Claude Code in one 28-day period. Microsoft, which had projected around $1B of internal Claude spending, is said to have cut that budget by more than a third while steering staff to its own tools; external customer spend on Anthropic models through Microsoft platforms reportedly keeps rising. Neither company confirmed the figures. The shift shows how quickly the largest buyers of coding agents are becoming competitors, which matters for any startup whose growth story depends on big-tech seats.
