OpenBot: Grok Bot alternative: free, local, open-source, multiplayer
The app runs agents through provider tools: Codex on a ChatGPT plan, Claude Code on a Claude plan, and Gemini on Google AI Pro or Ultra, and OpenBot adds no charge of its own. Through OpenCode, an agent can use any OpenAI-compatible server, including local models. Workspaces, chats and files stay on the user's machine, and no account is required. On launch day it was ranked #3 on Product Hunt. The target is Grok Bot, which xAI launched in beta on August 11, 2026. Grok Bot runs on a Cursor cloud VM. Its entry price fell from $200 at launch to $60 on August 21, and then to $20 on August 26. Other open-source clones have appeared, including Rakazo and several OpenGrokBot repos. The name is crowded too: a separate project notes it was called OpenBot until October 2026. For founders, persistent multi-agent teammates are already a commodity product shape. Clones appeared within weeks, which pushes the competition toward hosting, reliability and team features. The tradeoff is uptime: local agents stop working when the laptop sleeps.
