Apple's touchscreen MacBook & Gemini 4 Carbon land same day
Welcome back, Superhuman. When it rains, it pours. Apple and Amazon both showed off new devices yesterday — including a “glowing surprise” from Apple — while Google shipped yet another Gemini model, its second in weeks, to reclaim a top spot on the frontier.
Today: Apple’s touchscreen MacBook, how to build your first Grok Bot (and delegate real work), and get the latest prompts and trending social posts.
TODAY IN AI
1. Apple debuts its first touchscreen laptop: The newest MacBook Pro features a PROLED XDR display — which Apple claims is the “world’s best laptop display” — along with touchscreen capabilities and a Dynamic Island multi-function hub for frequently used tools. Under the hood, the M5 Pro/Max chip powers on-device AI abilities while offering up to 24 hours of battery life. Pre-orders are open now. Shipping starts Nov. 6th. See how it stacks up against Apple’s standard MacBook Pro.
2. Google announces Gemini 4 Carbon with leading results: After unveiling Gemini 4 Argon earlier this month, the tech giant is back with Gemini 4 Carbon — its newest flagship model. Gemini 4 Carbon currently ranks #1 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra. It excels at long-running work, with the tech giant claiming it has worked for days at a time on internal projects. Carbon is rolling out now to cyber defenders through Google’s Fairwind Program.
3. Amazon unveils five new Alexa-powered devices for the home: The announcement features two new products: the Alexa Photo Frame, a smart picture frame, and the Echo Time, a smart alarm clock, plus upgrades to Amazon’s smart TV and two speakers. Amazon also released the Alexa Home Map, which creates a 3D interactive map of your home. It’s not the only tech giant pushing deeper into smart-home tech: Apple launched a similar line of products in collaboration with LG roughly two weeks ago.

FROM THE FRONTIER
Prada hired a Disney animator as luxury brands lean into effort signaling — and away from AI
Social media is drowning in AI-generated content, so luxury brands are standing out by going aggressively human:
Prada teamed up with an animator: The fashion house’s latest ad feels more like a Disney Renaissance movie, with Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke walking alongside whimsical animals hand-drawn by animator John Pomeroy, who worked on Pocahontas, The Rescuers, and Atlantis.
Hermès hired a woodworker: To announce a new flagship store, Hermès commissioned French woodworker Thibaut Malet to craft a miniature version of it.
Life Magazine is relaunching with a bet on premium print: In a letter to readers, the magazine’s editors argue that “the faster we scroll, the less we see.” Its next issue will be a 250-page edition created by 100+ contributors.
It’s called effort signaling. Showing the work behind a product has always made it look more valuable. Now that anyone can make realistic content in minutes, that same logic applies to digital media. And it pays off. Harvard Business Review found that AI-generated ads still underperform human-made ones, even when viewers can’t tell the difference.
But AI’s benefits are hard to ignore. Fashion houses sell elite craftsmanship, so human touch is the product. This isn’t the case for most brands, where AI remains a powerful tool to test ideas at a pace and price that were previously unimaginable. The goal isn’t to pick a side. It’s to understand where AI fits in your process.
