User interview synthesis
Finds the patterns across interview transcripts, with quotes, frequency and what to build or stop.
Use it when
You ran five or more customer interviews and need to know what they add up to.
What you fill in
- transcripts The transcripts or detailed notes, one per interview
- question What you were trying to learn
The prompt
Synthesize these customer interviews. Research question: question Transcripts: transcripts 1. Themes: up to 6. For each: a name, how many interviews mention it (n of N), 2 verbatim quotes with the interview number, and whether it is a pain, a workaround, a desire or a misunderstanding. 2. Jobs to be done: the 3 most common, in "When ___, I want to ___, so I can ___" form. 3. Surprises: anything that contradicts what we assumed. 4. What to build, what to stop, what to learn next, each tied to a theme. 5. Weak signals: themes with only 1 mention that could matter. Quote exactly; never paraphrase inside quotation marks. Do not count a theme unless the transcript clearly supports it. Before you answer, check your draft against every instruction above and fix anything that misses.
Why it works
- Counts mentions, so loud anecdotes do not pass for patterns.
- Requires verbatim quotes with sources.
- Separates surprises from confirmations.
