About Evan Rapoport

Background

Evan Rapoport is a product leader who has taken large technology products from idea to launch, often by applying machine learning to aquaculture, wildlife conservation and photography. He joined Google in 2011, starting on Google Maps. He later launched products in Maps, Android and Photos.

In 2014 he moved to X, where he founded Tidal, a moonshot that used AI and hardware for ocean health and food security, with a focus on aquaculture. He then became founding CEO of Oceankind, the philanthropic organization of Lucy Page. His own site describes it as ocean philanthropy and impact investing, and Amphibian's team page says he built a portfolio of investments and grants worth more than $10M there. He was later Senior Technology Fellow at Conservation International (Aug 2020 to Jul 2021).

At Google Research he led the Moonshots program on the Brain team (listed from Aug 2021). The program evaluates and advances applications of deep learning. His site says that included early generative AI projects. He also served as product lead for nature-based climate solutions and biodiversity at Google Research. His site now lists him as Founder and CEO of Amphibian, an innovation lab with the stated mission of connecting a billion people with nature. Crunchbase still lists the Google Brain role as his current one.
