About Kulveer Taggar

Background

Kulveer Taggar is a serial founder and investor based in San Francisco. Crunchbase lists a master's degree from the University of Oxford. He has been through Y Combinator twice as a founder. The first time was in 2007 with Auctomatic, which he co-founded with Harj Taggar, Patrick Collison and John Collison, and which Live Current Media acquired. The second was in 2011 with Zeus Living.

He was co-founder and CEO of Zeus Living, a furnished-housing company. Crunchbase lists him in that role from September 2015 to November 2023. Zeus Living was acquired by Blueground. Press coverage describes the sale as happening in 2023.

After the sale he founded Phosphor Capital in early 2024. It is a venture firm that invests only in companies that have been through Y Combinator. Taggar says he has been to every YC demo day since 2007. This page is about Kulveer Taggar only. Harj Taggar, a YC partner and Initialized Capital co-founder, is a different person.

Angel investing track record

Before launching Phosphor, Taggar invested as an angel. Phosphor's launch announcement names Mux, Boom and Plenful among his angel investments. It also says he wrote more than 200 checks in the 12 months before July 2025 and received a YC rating of "Best" from dozens of partners and founders.

Crunchbase counts 48 investments for him, with 0 lead investments, 0 exits and 0 companies founded. PitchBook lists 40 investments, and its count is different from Crunchbase's. NFX Signal lists 56 investments on record and describes him as an angel investing since 2010. Counts differ by database, so treat them as approximate.

Phosphor Capital has raised $34M across two funds, according to TechCrunch. TechCrunch reports that YC CEO Garry Tan is among the backers. The firm's press release says its limited partners include an asset manager with over $10B in assets under management, several family offices and Bay Area accredited investors.

AI investments

Crunchbase shows 40 AI investments since 2023 out of 48 in total. The AI companies it lists include Monumint, DeepNight, Octolane AI, DryMerge, Mastra, Fazeshift, Sim, Hamming AI, Gumloop, Reducto, Trieve and &AI.

Crunchbase shows him as an investor in the seed rounds of Gumloop (July 2024) and Reducto (July 2024). PitchBook records a Mastra deal dated October 2025 and lists Mastra as business and productivity software. Phosphor's press release names Reducto, Delve, Circleback and Gumloop as portfolio companies. A trade report describes Circleback and Gumloop as AI-native.

Crunchbase does not give round sizes or Taggar's own check amounts for most of these deals.

Investment focus

Taggar's stated focus is early-stage startups that have participated in Y Combinator. Phosphor's announcement says he aims to personally meet at least half of the founders in each YC batch. It also says he aims to invest in the top 15 to 20 percent of companies in each batch. TechCrunch quotes him on YC outcomes: "6% of YC companies become unicorns."

The companies he has backed are mostly AI and software, including developer and business tools. Founders who have not been through YC may find that Phosphor's mandate does not fit. His earlier angel investments were not limited to YC companies.

Check size is not stated by Taggar himself. NFX Signal lists an investment range of $100K to $300K for him as an angel. One trade report says Phosphor writes checks of $100K to $500K. Treat both as third-party figures and confirm with him directly. Crunchbase and PitchBook list the companies he has backed as US-based software startups.
