About Maximilian Tayenthal
Maximilian Tayenthal co-founded the Berlin digital bank N26 with Valentin Stalf in 2013. He was the company's CFO, then Co-CEO and COO. He left operations on 31 December 2025 and remains a major shareholder.
Before N26 he worked in consulting and finance roles at CMS and Booz & Company. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in economics and business administration and a law degree from the University of Vienna, plus a CEMS master's in economics. He is a CFA charterholder.
PitchBook lists him as an individual angel investor in Berlin with 34 recorded investments. Crunchbase counts 25 personal investments, and CB Insights counts 33. The databases differ, so treat these counts as approximate.
The deals found are mostly early-stage fintech and software rounds between 2021 and 2024. He has also backed a few companies outside fintech, such as Terra One (energy) and Exakt Health. Crunchbase records one exit, topi, a B2B equipment rental subscription platform.
The AI round we confirmed is Calibre, a London healthtech company that launched out of stealth in April 2026 with $3.3M in pre-seed funding raised to date. Amino Collective led the round. Daybreak Ventures and Cocoa Ventures took part. The press release names Tayenthal and Gousto founder Timo Boldt as angels.
Calibre combines clinicians, diagnostics and causal AI to build personalised health plans. Membership starts at £69 a month. His check size in the round has not been disclosed. We found no other public AI-specific deals.
Public profiles show early-stage backing, mainly pre-seed and seed. His portfolio is concentrated in fintech and financial software, and also includes healthtech, energy and productivity software. Most companies are in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
We found no public statement from him on check size or on what he looks for in founders. In a LinkedIn post about Ivy, he said he had been on board from the very beginning and explained why he liked the product.
