About Simon Sinek
Simon Oliver Sinek was born in Wimbledon, London, in 1973. He lived in Johannesburg, London and Hong Kong as a child, then settled in the United States. He earned a BA in cultural anthropology from Brandeis University and later studied law at City, University of London.
He is the founder of The Optimism Company, which according to Foundr covers keynotes, workshops, books, courses and a publishing company. His books are Start With Why (2009), Leaders Eat Last (2014), Together Is Better (2016), Find Your Why and The Infinite Game (2019). In 2018 he announced Optimism Press, an imprint with his longtime publisher Portfolio. He also hosts the podcast A Bit of Optimism. His LinkedIn profile lists him as based in New York.
He became widely known after a 2009 TED Talk that introduced his Golden Circle idea of starting with why. In a Foundr profile he said he is interested in businesses that have an impact and make people feel work has a value beyond money.
Public information on his angel investing is thin. Crunchbase's profile for Simon Sinek shows one investment, a seed round in HeroMaker Studios. The date and round size are hidden on the public page.
We found no personal investor page, fund announcement or interview in which he lists a portfolio, a check size or a formal investing thesis. Treat him as an occasional investor, not a publicly active angel.
No stage, sector, geography or check size is public. His published views on business focus on purpose, leadership and long-term thinking, and he has said he is drawn to companies with impact beyond money. That is a statement of interest. It is not an investment mandate.
Founders who want to reach him should expect a conversation about mission and team more than a metrics-first pitch. This is an inference from his writing and has not been confirmed by him as a screening process.
- HeroMaker Studios: listed on Crunchbase as a seed round with Simon Sinek as an investor. The announcement date and amount are not public.
