Sean Parker is refocusing Stability AI on music tools backed by the three major labels

Napster co-founder Sean Parker, who rescued Stability AI with an $80 million round two years ago, is rebuilding the company around audio and music-production tools instead of general image generation, telling TechCrunch the old 'ask forgiveness later' approach did not work. Sony, Warner and Universal put $76 million into the company in August and licensed their catalogs for training, and Stability has since shipped three audio models and an editor that generates instrumental tracks from text, with hummed-melody and beatbox guidance coming. It is a rare case of a generative-media startup choosing a licensed, label-aligned path over fair-use litigation.
