Google unveils Project Suncatcher: TPU satellites in orbit by 2027

Google Research described Project Suncatcher, a moonshot to put Trillium TPUs on solar-powered satellites in a dawn-dusk orbit where panels see up to eight times the energy they get on the ground, with Planet-built prototypes targeted for early 2027 and a first test payload already up. This is a decade-scale bet, not a 2027 product. The near-term read for builders is what it says about the power constraint: the biggest buyers of compute are now designing around energy, not chips.
