Anthropic opens its fifth Asia-Pacific office in Singapore and signs an AI safety MOU with the government

The memorandum was signed with the Ministry of Digital Development and Information by Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann and the ministry's permanent secretary, on the sidelines of Singapore International Cyber Week. It covers cooperation on AI safety, security and model evaluation, research on adoption and its impact, and responsible use across public and private sectors. Anthropic plans technical exchanges on testing standards and incident response, will share Economic Index data, and will offer policy input as Singapore writes its AI rules. Usage is already deep. More than 1,500 engineers at GovTech Singapore use Claude Code. Grab's sales assistant built on Claude saves about 40,000 hours a quarter, Sea uses it for Shopee support, and Supabase builds with Claude Code. Regulated firms can run Claude with in-region inference on Amazon Bedrock. A Builder Summit drew over 300 developers. For founders selling in Southeast Asia, local data residency, an on-the-ground vendor team and government evaluation work lower procurement friction in banking and public sector deals.
