Atlassian signs new OpenAI deal to run GPT-6 models behind Rovo agents in Jira and Confluence
Under the agreement, OpenAI frontier models will power agents across Atlassian's platform and its Rovo assistant, which pairs the models with Atlassian's Teamwork Graph, a context layer linking people, projects, documents and decisions. Atlassian gets expanded access to new models including GPT-6 Astra and the GPT-5.6 series. Atlassian plugins also bring Jira tickets, Confluence pages and Bitbucket pull requests into ChatGPT and Codex prompts, subject to permissions. The relationship dates to 2023. The deal arrives as enterprise software vendors pick model suppliers for their agent layers, and days after reports that Meta and Microsoft are cutting internal Claude Code use in favor of their own agents. For founders selling into engineering and product teams, the incumbent workflow tools are bundling frontier models with proprietary context graphs. Startups building agents on top of Jira or Confluence data will increasingly compete with first-party agents that already hold that context, so differentiation has to come from workflow depth or cross-tool reach.
