Specs is rolling out in open beta to paid plans on web, desktop, and mobile. Any .md file can be dropped onto the canvas to become a spec. Frames, FigJam diagrams and code layers can be embedded inside a document. Figma's agent can reply to each open comment with a suggested fix while teammates weigh in on the same document. Coding agents connected to the Figma MCP server can read and edit Specs. The product was unveiled at Figma's first Config event in India, where code layers also moved from private to public beta. Figma's design chief says code output is up 17-fold while releases rose 1.3 times. Markdown files have no relationship to each other, or to the projects they're attached to. Notion and Markdown files kept in Git are the obvious alternatives for teams storing this kind of context. For a team building an AI company, the value is one shared source for brand rules, product requirements and technical notes that both people and agents read. The cost side matters too: writing to the canvas through the remote server requires a Full seat, is free during the beta, and will eventually become usage-based.
