Replit makes OpenAI its default model provider, with Claude still available to users

Replit CEO Amjad Masad said on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt that ChatGPT was now the default for Replit Agent. He later clarified over the weekend that customers can still select Anthropic's Claude, and he cited performance, economics and partnership as the reasons. Because most customers keep the default, the change could significantly reduce Replit's spend with Anthropic. Insiders familiar with the arrangement disputed that the Anthropic partnership had ended and said it remains in place. Masad also said enterprise contracts made up about 15% of revenue this year, up from 2% last year, and that more than half of revenue now comes from B2B customers. For founders, the default model is a distribution decision. Most end users never change it, so the provider that holds the default slot captures most usage. Build model routing so you can switch providers without rewriting agent logic.
