Alexander Bruehl
About Alexander Bruehl
Alexander Bruehl is a software engineer by training. He studied computer science in Munich and, by his own account, started two software companies before moving into venture capital. PitchBook lists him as a co-founder of Datango and LegalTrek.
From 1998 to 2008 he was at Atlas Venture (now Accomplice). His CV says he joined the Boston office in 1998 and headed the Munich office from 1999 to 2008. He was a Senior Partner and Managing Director of Atlas GmbH in Germany, and made early-stage and growth investments in IT, media and telecom.
Since 2009 he has worked as a business angel, mentor and coach through SaaSgarage, which he describes as a pre-seed angel fund for SaaS startups. He is based in Munich. PitchBook also lists board or advisory roles at AlfaDocs, bao Solutions, Collax, Propertybase, Contentful and FreeAgent Central.
A 2017 press release described him as an active seed investor in European SaaS companies including FreeAgent, Geckoboard, Contentful and Riskmethods. In January 2017 he joined Senovo and Unternehmertum Venture Capital in Loyalty Prime's €1.5M Series A.
SaaSgarage says it has worked with more than twenty SaaS companies across Europe. It combines early financing with hands-on advice on positioning, sales modelling, internationalization and fundraising. PitchBook counts 18 investments and CB Insights counts 11. The two databases differ, so treat those counts as approximate.
In October 2026 Bruehl took part in Elevatry's €3M pre-seed round. Elevatry is a Munich company building an agentic AI platform for strategic procurement. Bayern Kapital, the consultancy H&Z and several other business angels also joined the round. The trade press quoted him on why he invested. He said many AI products automate ordering, while Elevatry starts at purchasing volume, where the biggest profit lever sits.
Crunchbase also lists him as an investor in the pre-seed round of Paul's Job AI, announced around late 2025 alongside SCALEHOUSE Capital.
His own site says he looks for business ideas, credible teams and promising businesses in software (SaaS and cloud) and digital media. SaaSgarage focuses on European seed-stage B2B SaaS companies.
His Munich Startup profile lists a deal size range of 50K to 200K. He has not published a check size elsewhere that we found, so confirm it directly. Founders have described him as hands-on, and he offers mentoring alongside capital. He can be reached at abruehl@saasgarage.com.
