About Blake Borgeson

Background

Blake Borgeson studied electrical engineering at Rice University. In 2005 he co-founded BuildASign.com, an Austin online custom printing company. His own site says it was bootstrapped with no outside investment to more than $100M in revenue and then sold.

He then earned a PhD at UT Austin, applying machine learning to proteomics in the Marcotte lab. He co-founded Recursion Pharmaceuticals and was its founding CTO. Recursion uses automated cellular experiments and machine learning for drug discovery, and it went public in April 2021. He remains on Recursion's board.

In 2018 he shifted his focus from biotech to AI safety and other work on existential risk, according to the Good Forever team page. He helped lead the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI) for four years and is still a board member there. He also sits on the boards of Topos Institute and Palisade. His site says his philanthropy and investments are held through GoodForever.
