Derick En'Wezoh, MD
About Derick En'Wezoh, MD
Derick En'Wezoh is a physician, operator and investor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from Washington State University, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and an M.B.A. with a Certificate in Public Management and Social Innovation from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is also an alumnus of Stanford Biodesign. He was a surgical resident at Stanford Hospital and has published orthopaedic and trauma surgery research.
Before investing, he started a medical device company in the drug delivery space. He then joined Viz.ai, which builds AI-driven disease detection and care coordination. Per his own posts and bios, he was one of the company's earliest team members and led Growth for nearly four years. In that role he built several departments and executed commercial and revenue strategy. Viz.ai is described in his speaker bios as a unicorn.
He joined Susa Ventures in June 2021 as an investor. In March 2025 he posted from the Partner role as Susa announced its $175M Fund V. His job at Susa includes sourcing new investments, supporting portfolio companies, and building the firm's healthcare expertise. His public writing and talks are on Medium, LinkedIn and X (@denwezoh).
Most of Derick's public investing is through Susa Ventures, so firm and personal deals are hard to separate. He has described himself as an angel investor in at least one post. On LinkedIn he wrote that he is a small part of the journey at Recursive, the AI company led by Richard Socher, when it came out of stealth. His X bio lists Together AI, Ndea and Nourish as early-stage investments.
Crunchbase lists 4 personal investments, 4 portfolio companies, 0 lead investments, 0 exits and 0 companies founded. Its most recent personal entry is a seed round in Grata Health. Crunchbase counts can lag, so treat them as a partial record. Check size and personal investment dates are not published for his angel deals, so none are given here.
Derick says he specializes in healthcare and in technologies outside healthcare built on AI/ML/NLP/LLMs and workflow automation. In his Susa announcement post he said he is particularly interested in health-tech and AI companies with virtuous data cycles.
Public examples include Centaur Labs, a Boston company that provides medical data labeling for AI development through a network of medical experts. He wrote the Susa announcement of its $15M Series A, where Matrix Partners led and Susa participated. He also publicly congratulated Silna Health on its launch and $27M raise in 2025. He called it an honor to have backed the company from the beginning, and described it as a Care Readiness Platform applying AI to a healthcare pain point. He congratulated Adonis, a revenue cycle company, on its $40M Series C and said he is an early investor.
Susa describes itself as a seed-stage fund investing exclusively at pre-seed and seed, up to $5M, with no board seats. Susa's Fund V is $175M. A Susa event listing says the firm invests $1M to $3M in pre-seed and seed rounds and invests broadly in healthcare and artificial intelligence. Third-party directories give broader or different ranges for Susa and for Derick personally. Those figures are not confirmed by him, so founders should treat them as estimates.
He has said he invests across sectors but leans toward healthcare (digital health, care delivery, services) and AI/ML or generative AI outside healthcare. He often works with founders in San Francisco and Boston-area companies appear in his portfolio, though he has not stated a geographic limit. He describes himself as a "no nonsense investor" on X and LinkedIn. Founders can reach him at the address he published in his Susa announcement, derick@susaventures.com.
