Henrik Wetter Sanchez
About Henrik Wetter Sanchez
Henrik Wetter Sanchez is a General Partner at Playfair Capital, a London pre-seed fund. He studied French, Spanish and Portuguese at Cambridge and graduated with a first in 2017. During his degree he founded a tech startup, a social enterprise and began angel investing through crowdfunding platforms. The startup was RendezVu, a social navigation and discovery app that grew to over a thousand global users. The social enterprise was The Oxbridge Initiative, an access-led tutoring marketplace that was live in six countries.
His formal career began in private equity at Ardian in Paris during his year abroad. After graduating he spent two years in the investment banking division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, working on UK M&A and IPO deals.
Henrik joined Playfair for the launch of Fund II in 2019 as an associate. He became a Principal and was promoted to Partner in 2023, and he is now a General Partner. Playfair's team page says he has led at least seven investments in new companies and supports founders on and off their boards. He is a Kauffman Fellow (Class 28) and was named one of Sifted's Top 30 Young Venture Capitalists. He helped found Playfair's Female Founder Office Hours and now runs it with the team.
Henrik started angel investing in 2015 and has built a portfolio of more than 40 investments. His listed angel investments include Monzo (2016), GoHenry (2016, acquired 2023), Revolut (2017), Freetrade (2017) and Pod Point (IPO 2021). Playfair's team page describes his angel portfolio as weighted toward fintech brands.
He has kept angel investing alongside his fund role. His LinkedIn headline lists him as "Playfair | Angel", and he has said Playfair's Angel Community was a natural step because he began his venture career as an angel.
Warden AI is the clearest documented AI example. Henrik wrote that Playfair first invested an angel cheque in June 2024. A year later Playfair led the pre-seed round with a first cheque from its third fund. Warden AI audits AI systems used in HR to help companies detect and reduce bias in line with emerging regulations. Henrik said the company came to Playfair through its data-driven sourcing channel.
Other recent Playfair deals he has posted about include Fusionality, a CHF 3m pre-seed co-led with Founderful. Its founders met while teaching an AI to control EPFL's TCV tokamak. He also announced co-leading Ascento's $4.3m first round with Wingman Ventures. Ascento is a Swiss all-terrain security robot company built on ETH Zurich robotics research.
He sits on the board of Protex AI, and Kauffman Fellows lists a board seat at Recurse ML. Third-party investor databases tag him under AI at pre-seed and seed. Playfair describes itself as a generalist fund, so AI is one of several areas he covers.
Playfair invests only at pre-seed, with a focus on the UK and Europe. Its third fund is £57 million ($70 million) and makes six to eight new investments a year. Playfair describes itself as sector-agnostic, and its Wikipedia entry says the only requirement is a technology element. Henrik calls himself a "deliberate generalist". Playfair says it reviews every application it receives.
On cheque size, TechCrunch reported in 2023 that Playfair's average cheque had risen from around £500,000 to around £750,000, and might approach £1 million. That figure is for the fund, not Henrik's personal angel cheques. NFX Signal lists an investment range of $100K to $1.5M for him, but that is a third-party estimate. He has not published a personal angel cheque size.
Playfair's site says it looks for founders with "hustle, heart and humility". Henrik has said he is interested in hardware as an enabler of technology-led innovation.
