About Ratmir Timashev

Background

Ratmir Timashev is based in Greenwich, Connecticut. He was born in Ufa, Russia, in 1966 and graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1990 with a master's degree in physics. He moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1992 to study at The Ohio State University, where he earned a master's degree in chemical physics.

With his partner Andrei Baronov, he built Aelita Software from his campus apartment. Aelita made management tools for Windows NT administrators and was sold to Quest Software in 2004. The two then founded Veeam Software in Columbus in 2006. Timashev served as CEO until Insight Partners acquired Veeam in 2020 in a deal reported at $5 billion. The Veeam profile he provides for speaking events describes it as scaling past $1 billion in annual revenue before the sale.

After the sale he worked as a consultant at Veeam. In 2022 he and Baronov launched Object First, a backup storage company built for Veeam users and midsize enterprises. In 2024 he co-founded Integrail, an AI agent platform that was renamed EverWorker in June 2025. He also founded the Kubeshop software incubator. In February 2026 he launched OH.io, and his current role is Founder, OH.io Ventures.

Timashev and his wife Angela gave $110 million to Ohio State in 2023 to create the Center for Software Innovation, which the university describes as the largest single gift in its history.

Angel investing track record

Crunchbase lists 9 personal investments, 8 portfolio companies, 7 lead investments and 1 exit. It also lists 6 companies founded. PitchBook classifies him as an angel investor and counts 8 investments, so the totals differ slightly by data source.

The Crunchbase and PitchBook records include Revenue Grid (Series A), 5nine Software (venture round), Acure.io (alongside New Nordic Ventures), MONQ Digital Lab, Kubeshop, Acclaim AI and Newo.ai. Round dates for most of these are not shown publicly, so this page does not give years for them.

He keynoted the Angel Capital Association Summit in May 2024. The session covered the angel investor's role in building software and AI companies and how regional ecosystems support founders.

AI investments

Crunchbase lists Acclaim AI as his latest investment, a Series A, and says he is an advisor and board member there. PitchBook records an early-stage deal in Newo.ai dated 10 February 2026. Newo is a San Francisco AI receptionist startup. Press coverage says it raised a $25 million Series A in February 2026 led by Timashev.

He is also a co-founder of EverWorker (formerly Integrail), which builds AI agents that automate business tasks for mid-sized companies and non-technical users.

OH.io is the main vehicle for his current AI and software investing. Press describes it as a performance venture platform for B2B software and AI startups. It is privately funded, and Timashev is currently its sole funder. Dealroom reports that three former OH.io leaders sued Timashev and OH.io in April 2026 and that Timashev and OH.io countersued. Founders weighing the program may want to read the coverage and do their own diligence.

Investment focus

Reported focus is B2B software and AI, with an emphasis on go-to-market. Timashev told Ohio Tech News the reason most B2B software startups fail is sales rather than product. OH.io funds sales and marketing teams for participating startups for 18 to 24 months. In return it takes an option to invest at a lower valuation. Participants must base their North American sales and marketing operations in Columbus, Ohio, but may keep management elsewhere.

OH.io targets growth-stage companies with $1M to $5M in revenue from the US, Europe and Israel. Its stated plan is to bring 100 startups to Columbus over five years with more than $100 million committed. Eight startups had signed up at launch, including Testkube, Newo and Saporo.

This is a different model from a typical angel check. No individual check size, ownership target or pre-seed policy is public, so none is given here. Earlier-stage founders should check whether the revenue range fits before pitching.
